Today’s Program: Fundamentals of Rotary

Speakers were our own Rotary members, Pat Settembrino, Rick Beck and Bill McLaughlin

Pat Settembrino kicked off the meeting an Analogy referencing Coach Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers,
referring to their meetings in the locker room. He spoke about getting back to the “basics of Rotary”. That we are lucky
to have a go-getter President, however we all need to take responsibility participating equally in all events. Pat stated
that every member should invite one guest to a meeting to show all of what Rotary does. He spoke about serving on
committees, participating in projects and sitting on the Board of Directors.

Rick Beck asked everyone to ask themselves, “What are you doing here?” Rick suggested that all members right down a name of a potential new member and invite them to a meeting. He spoke about previous projects and commented it seems to be
the same people participating. We need to help rotary and the community we live in. A group discussion and ideas
were shared regarding new membership. A conversation of scholarships took place, academic vs. trade Schools.

Bill McLaughlin spoke about the history of Paul Harris Fellowship and the 5 Avenues of Service.

1.    Club

2.    Community

3.    Vocational

4.    International

5.    Youth

Bill handed out a sign-up sheet and asked members to pick one of the avenues to focus on this year. He referred to
Rotary's 4 way test and asked we all bring it to our personal and business lives.

Unfortunately we ran out of time.  Bill will complete his full presentation at our October 26th meeting.

Five Way Test of the things we think, say, or do
    1) Is it the truth?
    2) Is it fair to all concerned?
    3) Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
    4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
    5) Is it fun? (This one is unofficial but we put it in anyway)
