Old Saybrook High School: Carina Using, internship coordinator, described Camron Gosslin as a student who wants to make a difference. Camron participated in the “High School Reimagined” program at the state legislature building in Hartford. His participation and input has led to changes that will affect students across the state. Camron will be attending the University of Connecticut and has been accepted into the School of Nursing. UCONN only accepted 100 students out of 2100 applicants to the Nursing Program.
Westbrook High School: Principal, Tara Winch, and teacher, Mark McCray, described Nick Perregoux as the student who best exemplifies Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self”. Nick will be attending Southern Connecticut State University and plans on becoming a PE teacher and a coach.
Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Meredith Duxbury was unable to attend.
DARE PROGRAM ESSAY WINNERS: Police Chief, Michael Spera, and DARE Coordinator, Lt. Tim McDonald, reviewed the program and introduced the ten fifth grade students who won the essay writing contest. Each student then read an excerpt from their essay. Topics included: drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse, addiction, making good decisions, peer pressure, and Police Chief facts or fiction.
President Gerri Lewis presented a check for $3,000.00 to Chief Spera insuring that the DARE program would continue through next year.
Outreach: A $500.00 donation will be made to the Middlesex Coalition on Housing.
