Following Tara's induction into Rotary, Grace Scherber, President of the Old Saybrook HS Interact Club, spoke about her senior project. Grace has designed and constructed comfort packs for foster children. The comfortt packs are filled with necessities (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, teddy bear, etc.) all inside a handy backpack to help smooth a transition to a new home. Following her presentation, Grace talked about the club's activities the most recent Locks for Luke. The club is very active with local projects  such as the soup kitchen, food pantry, school projects and hopes to add an international project as well.

Brian, who was running the meeting while Sam was out, began a discussion about the scholarship committee's work and the club's committment. This year, the club will be giving $27,500 in scholarships to students in Old Saybrook, Westbrook and Old Lyme. To qualify, a student submits an essay along with their application and undergoes an interview. Academic excellence, Rotary involvement and financial need are the main qualifiers. There were 25 applicants and 12 responses to the invitation for interview. The amounts awarded will be determined by the committee.
