Students of the Month, Mathematics

L-R: Elaine Yang (Old Saybrook), Finian McGannon (Westbrook), Hannah Morrison (Lyme-Old Lyme)

Superintendant of Old Saybrook Schools Jan Perruccio welcomed the students, faculty and guests to what she called her favorite meeting of the month. Our club does a lot for area students and are proud of it. Jan told the students that the faculty had chosen them for this honor and explained that a donation is being made by the club in the students' names to the Polio Plus project to eradicate polio completely. Today polio and polio like illness is still present but thanks to Rotary and other organizations, this dreaded disease is almost a thing of the past.

Elaine Yang is a quiet leader, the epitome of RAM pride. Elaine was exposed to actuarial work this summer and she loved it. She may be seeking a career in the field.

Hannah Morrison is exceptionally talented in many areas including chemistry, physics and language. She is active in dance and music and is also busy with a business. Hannah helped start a student center, giving up study hall and free time to help other students. She loves the arts and hopes to combine her many talents in a rewarding field.

Finn McGannon is a scholar, taking UCONN level courses and always challenging himself and his teachers as well. He plays the trumpet in the band, a thesbian and has a great sense of humor. Finn plans to pursue studies in math.

Club Business:
Marty will be organizing the club for our service in the Torchlight Parade which takes place on Saturday night Dec. 8. This is our 31st year of hosting the tent on the green preparing and serving hot chocolate and baked goods to the marchers. In recent years, the tent has been open to the general public as well. Volunteers are asked to be at the tent by 5pm to spread out all the goodies on tables and get ready for the crowd that is sure to come. Pat has volunteered to make the arrangements and pick up most of the baked goods. Brent, Brian and John will make the hot chocolate at the Estuary and bring it to the tent. Its a lot of fun for all.

Last years Torchlight crew

Charlie Norz, who started this popular project, spoke about the dictionary distribution to 3rd graders. All went well!
