Program: Larry Gardner: District Governor

Larry arrived bearing gifts from Rotary President Barry Rassin. He presented Sam with a “Be the Inspiration” Banner for our club and “Be the Inspiration” pins for all club members. He noted that O.S.Rotary is 91 years old and encouraged us to continue doing the good work that we have done throughout our long history. His message addressed the issue of declining membership in the United States. Even though membership increases by 150,000 each year, about 150,000 members leave the organization each year. He suggests that we not only recruit new members but also focus on retention of our present members. Rotary leadership is currently developing a workshop that will train Rotarians in best practices for membership retention. Specific examples include: assigning new members an important club duty to immediately get them involved in club activities and assigning new members a mentor to help in the assimilation process. Larry shared a personal story that illustrated a “Rotary Moment” that not only engaged him in service above self but has kept him engaged for many years serving people throughout the world. Thank you. Larry, for your inspirational thoughts.
