Superintendent of schools, Jan Perruccio, introduced the students, teachers, and administrators from each school district. The students introduced their parents and/or guests.

Westbrook High School: Colin Sutherland was described by principal, Tara Winch, and teacher, Alina Britchi, as a student who could win this award in every subject area. Colin is a “true thinker” and a problem solver as evidenced by leading the Science Club to victory in the Cardboard Boat design and race competition held at UCONN. As a junior, Colin earned the highest grade in the senior physics class.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Emma Danes was described by assistant principal, Jeanne Manfredi, and teacher, Brett Lillie, as the student who has most improved the school atmosphere with her enthusiasm and positivity. She is the heart and soul of Lyme/Old Lyme High School. Emma has also dedicated many hours of her time to community work and the Girl Scouts of America. In Physics Class, Emma will ask probing questions and is always willing to help her classmates. She plans on a neuroscience major or taking the pre-med track next year in college.

Old Saybrook High School: John Gabelmann was described by assistant principal, Joe Anostasio, and teacher, Amber Scherber, as the student who “walks and talks Ram P.R.I.D.E.” He is involved in sports, music, and drama productions. In addition, he is the student representative on the BOE and is a vital member of the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee. John has participated in the Yale School of Medicine summer program and a Biodiversity Study in Honduras. He has narrowed his field of study to engineering, biochemistry, or physics.
