Happy Bucks: Students, guests, and teachers; UCONN Women’s Basketball Team, Joe is back at SAA, Incubator Grant is going well.

Program: Student of the Month; Fine and Performing Arts – Jan Perruccio

Superintendent of Schools, Jan Perruccio, introduced the students, teachers, and administrators from each school district. The students introduced their parents and/or guests.

Old Saybrook High School: Breydan Medbury was described by assistant principal, Joe Anastasio, and teacher, Jeremy Milton, as an example of the student becoming the teacher. Breydan not only helps in the E.L.L. classes with translations, he has conducted professional development workshops for the staff at OSHS. He enjoys the role of stage manager for the Music Department’s theatrical productions. During the Fall Concert, he conducted the band and plans to conduct again in the Spring Concert. Breydan plans to earn a Music Education degree at the University Of Vermont and eventually teach at the college level.            

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Colin Hallahan was described by assistant principal, Jeanne Manfredi, and teacher, Jacob Wilson, as a self-directed student who wants to learn. He has shown tremendous growth in music during his high school years as evidenced by learning the flute, guitar, and becoming a leader in the Show Band. Colin is a NHS member, a cross country runner, a member of the Robotics Team, and helps in the local soup kitchen. Colin plans to study Aerospace Engineering at Purdue University in the Fall.

Westbrook High School: David McCain was described by principal, Tara Winch, and teacher, Eric Gerhardt, as a true gentleman respected by the entire faculty and his peers. He is a NHS member and the captain of the football and basketball teams. He has become a leader in the Music Department and is a self-taught bassoon player. He is in the Concert and Jazz Band, the Wind Ensemble, and participated in the Fall Musical. David plans to study in a school of business with the goal of earning a Law Degree.

Members from the North Branford Rotary Club:
Hope Looney, MaryAnn and Ralph Stroup presented updated information about the Global Grant to help a medical clinic in Kenya. Nine Rotary Clubs, including Old Saybrook, have pledged a total of $30,000.00 to equip the clinic with solar lights, a water filtration system, an electric fence (protection from wildlife), and a drip irrigation greenhouse. This project will affect the quality of life for 2,500 people in this remote area. For more information, go to:

John Donnelly informed us that the final paperwork for the Incubator Project in Ghana should be completed by the end of this week. Great work John, Bill O. and Marty.
