Happy Bucks:  Students, parents, the DARE Program, Class of 2019, the weather, Students of the Month, thank you to the Rotary Club for your support and the breakfast.

Student of the Month: P.E./Health, Jan Perruccio, Superintendent of Schools, introduced students, teachers, and administrators. Students were presented with a certificate and a small stipend to acknowledge their achievement. A donation, in their name, was also made to Polio Plus.

Westbrook High School: Alana Bochanis: Presenters – Tara Winch, Principal; Mark McCray, Teacher
Alana is known for her determination, perseverance, and the joy and happiness that she brings to school every day. She is the president of her class, editor of the school newspaper, and a four sport athlete. She won the Spirit of Sport Award. As a member of the NHS, Alana conducted a fundraiser that led to the purchase of defibrillators. She suffers from a heart condition that will require her to get a heart transplant  within the next few years. Undaunted by this situation, Alana plans to attend the University of New England and become a nurse.

Old Saybrook High School: Bridget Souriyamath: Presenters – Mike Cunningham, AD; Brian Donahue, Teacher. Bridget is an outstanding student who exemplifies Ram P.R.I.D.E. She always goes above and beyond the required work, is a compassionate person, and an excellent role model for the younger students. Bridget has an interest in Irish Step Dancing and takes a great deal of pride in competing with other students. She plans to attend Seton Hall University next Fall with a double major in the medical field.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Jenny Ritchie: Presenter – Bill Rayder, Teacher. Jenny is a proven student leader with a passion for learning and life. While in the tenth grade, she enrolled in an EMT Class, which changed her outlook and purpose in life. Jenny will be attending Sacred Heart University and enrolled in the Nursing Program.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E)

Officer Tim McDonald, middle school SRO and DARE Program coordinator, thanked the Rotary for its support for the past 30+ years. The DARE Program is designed to teach our youth about risky situations which may include alcohol and its effects, drugs and addiction, bullying and bad choices. Students are taught how to make good choices, avoid risky situations and to become good citizens. Tim then introduced this year’s DARE Essay Winners: Luke Surmanis, Teagan Iglesias, Alexandra Hirst, Jamison LeMire, Abigail Palumbo, Brooke Garvey, and Wyatt Pennington. Congratulations to all.
