OS Rotary Meeting 04/17/20

Pledge: Gary McCauley
Prayer: Gary McCauley

Happy Bucks: Many continue to be happy: seeing and talking to each other (ZOOM), learning that we are all safe, healthy, and in good spirits; hoping for a smart re-entry, continuing to be able to work, not having to see Pete’s pajama bottoms. Jan was extra happy that a falling tree missed her house!

President’s Update: Gary McCauley

Thank you to the committees working on the District Grants that deal with helping our three towns combat the COVID-19 Virus.

Gary asked for volunteers to serve on a committee to investigate what OS Rotary can provide to our communities as the State goes into Re-entry Mode. Volunteers are: Alan Schwarz, Pete Zucco, John Giannini, and Jan Perruccio. Pat Settembrino will chair this committee.

Kathy Callinan summarized the problems local businesses are having obtaining federal funds to help with their payroll. The process is not only slow, but she was concerned that the money would run out this week.

Rotary Meetings will now be held every Wednesday at Noon. Be ready to ZOOM!

District Grants:

Pat Devito reported that the application for the Emergency Food Pantry Support Grant has been completed. The grant is for $525.00, to which OS Rotary will add $375.00, bringing the total to $900.00. Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries, the recipient of the grant, will be responsible for distributing $300.00 to each of our towns: Old Saybrook, Westbrook, and Lyme/Old Lyme. The check should arrive within the next two weeks.

Pat Settembrino reported that the application deadline for the Disaster Community Response Grant is April 20th. The Grant is for $2500.00 to which OS Rotary will add $3500.00, bringing the total to $6,000.00. $2,000.00 will be given to each town. Old Saybrook and Lyme/OldLyme will use the money to purchase P.P.E. for First Responders. Westbrook will use the funds to purchase P.P.E. for families and Social Services Personnel.

Announcements:
A Fundraising Committee will evaluate current/past programs. The committee will report recommendations for future action. John Aforismo will chair. Charlie Norz, Charlie Renshaw, and John Giannini will serve on the committee.

OS Rotary will be ZOOMING again on 4/22 at noon.
