 President Gary proposed having a meeting in evening 6:00 P M  06/03/20 Kathy Callinan would be able to make this meeting time. Agreed.

Program

Bill Tate, Essex Financial addressed The Club with an overview of the market today. Without question it has been a wild ride, however the market is moving upward in the past several days. Equities have fluctuated while bonds have remained strong.   The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook Foundation has weathered this roller coaster quite well. The Fund is down give or take10%. The fund holds 58% equities, 37% convertible bonds 5% a mix. We are O K.

D M G

1.) Pat Settiembrino reported the Covid -19 DMG is complete. Check is in from District 7980 and a check from “The Club” in the amount of $2,00.00 will be sent to Emergency Management Department in Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, and Westbrook. A news release was held at noon Friday May 15, 2020 to publicize the donation. Photos taken an and an article prepared for Harbor News.

Fund Raising

New ideas being worked on by Charlie N, Charlie R, John G, John A.

1.)Mac dinner plans being made to hold in fall at Fireman’s Field

2.)Art & Craft Show on hold, talked with Knights and Lions about ice cream they did not want to sell so will look into setting this up.

3.)Golf Tournament Charlie R looking into holding @ Fewwick.

4.)Wine Tasting is a go for now.

5.)Looking into a Donate on Line Button on Web gage.

6.)Charitable Donation from companies such as Amazon, Omaha Steaks.

7.)John A talked with The Rotary Club of Branford, re fund raisers. They have a side banner on web page they sell to business, a onetime solicitation, have a donate button on web page and use Face Book to raise money.  Give or take $40.000.00 from banners.

 

Old Saybrook Community Long Term Recovery Committee

A 21-person committee has been organized under the leadership of Chief Spera. Other members are First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Congressman Devin Carney, Old Saybrook Chamber Judy Sullivan, Estuary Council Stan Mingione The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook has been invited as a non-aligned member, President Gary McCauley will participate. Others are from the community at large. The committee has met and will work on the issues and report put together by mid-July.

Scholarship

Charlie Renshaw reported that a total of $20,000.00 will be disbursed in amounts ranging from $500.00 to $2.500.00. The information on the student scholars has been sent to the three schools they will distribute.

Budget/Dues

 Treasurer Kathy Callinan has sent the invoice for dues in the amount of $154.00, due and payable on or before June 30.2020.  Budget work under construction.

Finance

Both, “The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook and The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook Foundation” budgets are being reviewed. What are the needs and how much money is available?  Working on distribution of funds.

V. P. and Membership Chair

Pat Settembrino suggested candidates should have been through the chairs for VP.  Pete Zucco volunteered for the Chairmanship of New Member Recruitment Group.

Community Restart Program

Pat Settembrino reported that the committee has talked with Social Services in each of our three towns, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, and Westbrook to determine the number families in need, approximately 300 across the towns. Not equally divided. Money to be distributed TBD.   Restaurants visited T-J give $40.00 for $30.00, Bills Seafood give $40.00 for $50.00, Hideaway similar. Suggestion made that the committee consider giving “Say Bucks” in Old Saybrook

Rotary Foundation

Pat Detivo reported the news from District 7980 and R I re: The Foundation. District 7980 has $95,000.0 available for a DMG while R I has $155,000.00 available for Global Grants. Changes re: “CLUB” requirements:

1.) No club steward required

2.) Every Club must have a primary contact for DMG’s

3.) All Clubs must have an M O U

4.) Every Club President Elect must go thru training

5.) Every Club must have a six (6) member chain of command; President, President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Sargent at Arms.

6.) Club, District 7980, and RI Annual dues, due and payable on or before 06/30/20
