Speaker: Bill McLaughlin introduced Devin Carney and thanked him for the updates concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. He is the State Representative for the 23rd District. Devin stated that the 2020 legislative session began in early February but the Capitol closed in mid-March effectively ending the regular session. Topics that were being discussed and debated included transportation financing, tax policy, marijuana, vaccines, and expanded gambling. Unless covered in a special session, these concepts will not be addressed until next year. When the legislature reconvenes, it will need to confront the possibility of prolonged unemployment, the potential for another outbreak, and how our state can return to normal. A special session of the legislature will take place in two weeks to work on the absentee ballot issue and police reform. COVID-19 related topics: the state will remain in Phase 2 for awhile longer, (bars will remain closed and there will be no live theater). Schools are reviewing several options in order to open in August/September. There is not a firm date when Phase 3 will begin.

After his presentation, there was a Q&A session. Topics included: police defunding,Federal Govt. refunding, and school safety. Thank you, Devin for your time, information, and your service to our community.
