 DG Ron Webb happy to be with The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook and to have survived the recent storm, Asst DG Tari Marshall-Dey happy “The Club” laundered money, via 7980 DMG fo Soup Kitchen and PPE’s keep it going, Pete Z happy grandson visiting, Joe A happy for the rain on his garden, Charlie N for the visiting Rotarians, Marty happy for the visiting Rotarians, Kath C happy for family visit, Alan S happy for the recent rains, Pat S happy for the visiting Rotarians, John A happy for the school reopening’s, Bill McL happy to celebrate the 59th Wedding University of Bill and Rosemary, Gary McC happy for the visiting Rotarians and looking forward to hearing from our new 7980 DG Ron Webb.

PROGRAM

Ron Webb, a Rotarian, since 1992. He has been a member of four (4) Rotary Clubs, including three (3) in District 7980. President of The Tri-Bury Rotary Club, Chairman of the Interact Program District 7980, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Ron has a background in manufacturing, education and recently with Edward D. Jones Investments.

Ron is looking to help Rotarians help themselves. “Rotary Opens Up Opportunities” is the, “Rotary International”, theme for The Rotary year 2020-2021. The plan is to improve and strengthen the RI website and make it easier to use. Rotary .org/learn is a start.

Four Items of Focus

1.)New members. Beware that on average new members leave after 2-3 meetings. Great need to engage both new and old members in the activities of Rotary. Work on improving member data base. Raise.Rotary.org

2.) Working toward have each Club in the District have a strategic plan.

3.)Enhance the value of our youth. Build stronger Rotaract and Interact Participation.

4.)Polio Eradication, a recent announcement was that Polio has been eradicated from Africa, the last few have been eliminated from Northern Nigeria. Polo still remains in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A challenge was given by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to RFotay International, where by “The Foundation “would give $150,000,000 if Rotary International would raise $50,000,000. The challenge was met June 30, 2020. GOOD JOB!!!! 

President Update

1.  Coastal Clean-up looking for volunteers in late Sept. for clean-up project will keep us advised.

2. Marty D, Kath C, John A, Gary Mc, working on the redesign of our web site. Will keep us advised.

3. District advised they have 80,000 masks available for distribution. The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook will take 3,000 for distribution to Middlesex Health.

4. DMG for Shoreline Soup Kitchen has been completed.

Fund Raising

1.) Mac dinner plans on for Sunday October 18. 2020 Fireman’s Field.  Moving forward John G having tickets printed $10.00 per dinner. Each Rotarian will receive 10 tickets to sell. Extra tickets available. Advertising campaign under way, Harbor News, Old Saybrook Neighbors, etc.  Committee has need for 3,000 cookies, bakers get ready.

2.) Golf Tourney a work in progress with Charlie Renshaw, working with Devils Hopyard to secure a time and date. Looks like next May is the time for the event.

Old Saybrook Community Long Term Recovery Committee

1.)   Committee continues to meet, working on a public service announcement to promote their activities.

2.)  Fund raising at $47,000.00 working toward $65,000.00

Community Outreach

Joan Michaud proposed that “The Club” give $1,500.00, re: Susan Consoli’s request, for Social Service’s needs. Motion passed. Kathy will write a check
