Prayer and Four Way Test: Gary McCauley

Happy Bucks: Happy Bucks this month go to the Thanksgiving Turkey Drive with a 25 cent on the dollar match from Liberty Bank. Happy everyone is healthy and the production of a COVID vaccine is soon to be a reality; several for the selfless service of all of our Veterans, the Veteran’s Day programs in our schools; several for today’s distinguished speaker – Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl Fortuna; Pete is especially happy for his abundant supply Hungry Man frozen dinners.

Program: Old Saybrook First Selectman, Carl Fortuna

Carl began by expressing his thankfulness for our veterans and the good health of his family and friends. He also offered his congratulations to all those who were elected to public office in the recent election. Carl’s presentation included a variety of topics.
Highlights included:

COVID 19 and the great the schools were doing insuring that the students are receiving a quality education during the pandemic.
An explanation of the Old Saybrook Cares committee and its mission. To date, the committee has raised $100,000 dollars to aid those affected by the pandemic. $80,000 dollars has already been distributed to those in need. Old Saybrook is in good shape financially and is already preparing next year’s budget which, hopefully, will only be a 1% increase over the current budget.
A State Grant will finance the construction of public bathrooms at the park at Saybrook Point and the Pickle Ball Courts on Main Street Park.
New sidewalks are a priority. The goal is to make downtown accessible to foot traffic to all restaurants, shops, and a variety of small businesses.
Don’t Panic! We’ll be sending our taxes to Webster Bank in New Britain this year. This will be a more efficient system and reduce in person visits to the Town Hall.

Thank you, Carl, for a very informative presentation!

Westbrook Foundation Grant: Pat Settembrino
A $1600 grant enabled the Club to purchase 40 Thanksgiving Dinners to be distributed to residents of Westbrook. Edd’s Restaurant, located in Westbrook, will prepare the meals and Social Services will handle the meal distribution.

Golf Tournament Update: Charlie Renshaw

After a thorough inspection of the Fox Hopyard Golf Course and its facilities, our tournament will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 and use the three meal format. A contract will soon be sent at which time a golf tournament committee will finalize the details involved in running a successful tournament.

Announcements:

Charlie Norz announced that the distribution of dictionaries to all third grade students has been completed.

ZOOM Meetings will continue for the foreseeable future.
