Rick Beck read the club's bylaws and found that a change to an article relating to club
dues must be by 2/3 vote of the members present (article 16). Therefore the dues
change voted on a few weeks back is invalid.
President Keith: Will review budget with the Board and come back to club with a
recommendation and a possible vote. More to come.
Gerri Lewis is District Foundation rep and reviewed need for foundation particpation
by all clubs. Matching grants can hinge on club's partication. Also tentative projects
that might be considered should be sent to District to insure foundation grant money.
Program/Announcement: Gerri introduce Jenny Pace and daughter Cahla (who is in
preschool at Goodwin School). Jenny entertained us as a singer at one of our dinner
meetings a year or so ago. She's a member of the Deep River Rotary and is promoting
their First Annual Octoberfest. It will be held at the Stone House/Carraige House
(Historical Society near the horseshoe pits in Deep River) on Friday, September 21st
starting at 5PM with a German dinner, large stein of beer and one refill plus music by
a 6 piece German band. Tickets are $35/person for dinner, beer and music and $15
for music only, buy your own beer. Tickets can be purchased online at
DeepRiverRotary.org. Sounds like a fun evening, we should make an effort to
support them.
Rotarian Bio: Glenn Anderson, our sergeant, presented his sketch. He was born in
Iowa in a farming family who had a dairy farm and also raised pigs. He spent 4 years
in the Air Force, one in Vietnam. He wasn't in a forward position and didn't see any
combat. His best action while their was the poker games that he excelled in,
augmenting his military pay. After the service he attended the University of Wisconsin.
While there he became a Badger fan (of course) and a Cheesehead (what else).
My daughter in law is aslo a Cheesehead. After school he worked for a store chain
that wanted him to move too frequently. He left and went into Title Search and also
worked part time a bowling alley where he ultimately became manager. He always
had a yearning to be near the ocean on the east coast and came to O.S. He owns
and runs the U-Pak-It store on the post road next to the Pizaa Palace, He bought
the franchise from the owners of the Yankk Packet operation that was in the O.S. mall.
He's shipped a lot of 'stuff' including a live Christmas tree to Mississippi, a 3 foot long
sub and a freshly baked apple pie with a nice dome. The pie arrived at it's destination w
with the dome still intact. If you have anything unusual to ship, see Glenn, he's your man.
