We discussed the upcoming Wine Tasting followed by a bio by ADG Jack Solomon who was in attendance. Jack is originally from Brooklyn, NY and settled in Rye, working for Praxaire, an industrial gas company. Jack retired in 2005 after 37 years. Looking for a summer home, Jack saw an island for sale in E. Hampton. He decided to sell his home in Rye and live on the island. There were some anxious moments trying to sell his home while buying a new home but it all worked out. Laurel Island is known locally as Boy Scout Island because for years it was the location of many outings. The island was rented to the scouts in 1920's and eventually sold to them. In 1962 the Boy Scouts sold it. The new owner dumped hundreds of cots in the river and they are still down there today. The waters are stocked with Wali, a type of fish but they cannot reproduce so must be restocked from time to time. Jack would like to have us over sometime.
