From Gerri:

WOW!  Full house today!  We had a visitor from Norman, OK who was at a convention at The Saybrook Point Inn. She looked on the Rotary website (try it) and under Rotary locator is where she found us.  Linda Holt is the Secretary of her club in Norman and Norman, OK is where our RI President, Ron Burton is from.  Small world isn't it?   We exchanged Rotary Flags.  Of course the poor thing sat next to Brent and he talked her ear off about Oklahoma....and then he tried to sell her a hand..I don't know how that turned out..*:)) laughing

John Donnelly brought a guest, Ed Armstrong; (hopefully another prospective member) Maurice Raymond, from Lakeland, FL is back (he really likes our club); our prospective new members Eric and Christy were here...Amber couldn't be with us today because it was her first day of school. Our AG Jack Solomon visited with us and of course our program presenters Scott Schoonmaker, Max Sabrin and David Perrotti (prospective new member?) were with us as well to talk about Sgt. Tupper.

Stu, who makes our breakfast was excited to see Scott as well.  It was like old home week.  Our visitors commented what a great meeting it was and what a great club we are!  Hooray for the Rotary Club of Old Saybrook!!*=D> applause

Our program was "Support Sgt. Tupper".   Scott gave us some background on Tupper and his family and he talked about how the "fundraiser" got started.  They thought they were just going to do a spaghetti dinner, raise $500 and call it a day....but it mushroomed into something big; thus the event 2 weeks ago, in which Rotary participated.  They have raised approximately $50K to date.  We learned that David is in contact with Sgt. Tupper just about everyday.  This is truly an amazing and extraordinary young man and quite a story behind it all.  It was a pleasure to present them with a check in the amount of $5,000 to support Sgt. Tupper and his family.

Rotary Success Seminar:  I am pleased to say that Ken Roche has signed up. Thanks, Ken. You're a committed board member!  It's not too late to sign up folks....*;) winking

I would like to say thank you to the Old Saybrook Rotarians who are truly committed to our motto...SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

Looking forward to next week with Dr. Spiekermann and Rick Benson who will do a presentation on the Global Grant (that we are participating in) for Dengel Fever.

....and lastly, all dues paid by November 1st please.  Thanks!  RI doesn't give extensions.  Thank you and be well.  See you next week!
