The Kate has now completed 4 years of operation and to date has had over 900 productions. This week a company that does children productions is here auditioning kids, rehearsing and Saturday is the show. Gary US Bonds Saturday, Nov. 9.
Recently, money ($230K) was raised for a renovation to convert what was supposed to be Judge of Probate offices into rehearsal facilities and additional bathrooms. The Kate is a success story in difficult economic times drawing from a large radius. Most attendance is within a 30 mile radius. Zoe Keating (see her if you get the chance) recently drew many from New Haven so there is no rule. Infinity has recently relaxed their exclusivity requirements of artists to allow them to play at The Kate. The casino has been a major roadblock to getting artists to The Kate to perform due to strict exclusivity contracts that don't allow them to perform within a certain distance and date. You will see the biggest names appear on Thursdays and Sundays because this is an ideal stopover on the way to a larger venue. The Kate is an add-on to their other engagements that pay more due to size and ticket sales.
There is a new way that businesses can support The Kate with a variety of sponsorships from $250 to $1,000.
