Gerri was very appreciative of the club members' efforts in our Wine Tasting. There is no 'I' in TEAM and this was truly a team effort. Between selling tickets, getting sponsors and auction items, it was a lot of work and it paid off!

Program: Paul Moore African Safari
As most of us know, Paul is a hunting enthusiast and avid gun collector. Last May, Paul took a 15-1/2 hour flight from Atlanta to northern South Africa on an adventure in the African bush. South Africa has very strict gun laws, they must be locked at all times and if a gun goes missing and they find it wasn't locked - you go to jail. The accommodations were very comfortable. The huts had a foot and a half thick thatch roof and was adorned with many trophies on the walls representing the local game population. These included zebras, bush pigs, wilder beasts, impalas, warthogs, kudus and more on over 6,000 acres surrounded by a 8' fence.
If you shoot and wound an animal, you must hunt it down as a wounded animal can be very dangerous to people - they have been known to attack. The complex is maintained with water and food for the game. A preparation area is provided where kills are butchered providing meals for the local population as well as the hunters - nothing is wasted. The meat is sold for $0.50/lb. Paul is an excellent marksman and he got his share of kills including a couple of rare animals (i.e. white blesba) for which he is in the record books. In this safari, you pay for what you shoot and Paul had 8. You had to watch out for Black Mamba snakes which are aggressive and poisonous. It paralyzes your breathing. Up to 4 groups of 1 or 2 hunters go out at a time. Paul was there for 14 days and hunted 8 of those days.
