New Member Induction

Nancy conducted the new member induction. She listed the duties/obligations expected of Rotary Members and presented Cheryl Nadzam with the Rotary Pin. Cheryl hit the ground running as evidenced by her volunteering for several events and serving as co-chair of the newly created Grants Committee. Congratulations Cheryl. We all look forward to working with you. Welcome to Rotary.

Program: Guest speaker, Rotarian Debra Lee – our resident artist

Debra began her presentation by reviewing her life’s journey which resulted in becoming a very accomplished artist. Originally she set her sights on becoming a veterinarian, changed her mind and trained to be a dental hygienist. Spending the day with her fingers in people’s dirty mouths, proved to be uninspiring. She then decided, and lucky for us, to study an interest that she had had since her childhood – Art. She started as a commercial artist and sign painter. Debra then became interested using watercolors, air brush artistry, and tile design. Which all resulted in her own “Step Over Studio”. Debra brought many examples (some may call it an art show) of recent projects. She then invited the Club to view her art work and ask questions. This was an excellent opportunity to ask an artist about her techniques as well as her inspiration for specific pieces. Thank you Debra, for giving us this opportunity. Well done! Debra will be participating in an Art Show this September. Details to follow. She will also be traveling to Italy in May of 2025 to further her study of Art.

Announcements:

ChiliFest: It was decided, in a close vote, to name our Chili. Red Hot Rotary Chili will be entered in the annual ChiliFest to be held on 3/2/2024. When we win the contest, the winnings will be donated to the Rotary Foundation. Nancy reviewed the work assignments, the time schedule, and the volunteer list. The chili will be prepared on 3/1 at the Grace Church. The Club will donate $100 to the Grace Church for the use of their kitchen facilities.

Student of the Month: The Student of the Month Presentation meetings for January and February had to be cancelled due to weather conditions.  Jan will contact the schools and get input on how to reschedule the presentations.

Next Meeting: 2/28/2024 at NOON at the VFW. John Donnelly will be the guest speaker.
