She also read the slate of officers proposed by the nominating committee for next year.
They are: President - Paul Moore, President Elect - Keith Wescovich, Matt Vogt - Secretary,
Dave Wight - Treasurer.  No VP or Sergeant at this time and no other nominations from the
floor.  A motion was made to cast one ballot for the entire slate.  It was unanimously
    approved by the club.
Program 1:  Bill O'Shaunessy introduced Tim Griswold, 1st Selectman of Old Lyme.
Tim stated that Old Lyme was formed by slitting away from Old Saybrook.  He told us that
Lady Fenwick's grave in O.S. has been maintained by family members that have since all
relocated to Old Lyme and this continues to this day.  He indicated that Old Lyme is
mostly residential and has very little commercial properties.  Strict conservation easements
and zoning have allowed them to maintain the historic flavor of the town.  They do have
similar problems as O.S. such as densely populated beach communities and ground water
pollution issues.  Point of Woods beach has sewers that run through Waterford and connect
to the New London plant.  There have been discussions as to whether more of the town
should be connected as well.  Also, their school population is slowly dropping and the
balancing of student/teacher ratios is being reviewed as well as moving the school district
lines between Lyme and Old Lyme may be changing to help provide a batter balance.
There may be budget and taxation issues due to the large expenditure for the High School
building project and the diminishing state aid.  More of the tax burden may be falling on
the residential homeowners.  All in all they have many of the same problems and issues
that we have here in O.S.
Program 2:  Haley Grunwald gave us a PowerPoint presentation on the O.S. Interact Club
and their activities.  Some of the projects they are involved in  are:
Invisible Children  -  Aid for children in Uganda
Phoenix Project   -  Clothes drive for folks displaced by natural disaster, fires, etc.
Soup Kitchen  -  Preparing and serving food at the Soup Kitchens.
Habitat for Humanity  -  Building storage sheds for folks in need.
Penguin Plunge  -  At Hammonasett beach in February, ouch!
Camp TLC  -  Putting together boxes of misc. 'stuff' given to inner cities kids attending
            summer camps.
They also have many other smaller projects and of course helping us on some of our own.
Golf Tourney:  Brent and Sandy reviewed current status, which isn't too good.  We all have to
get cracking to get the donations in to make this a success.  Sandy has to know of any new
donors that have to have signs made by this Friday the 20th, to be sure they will be ready
for the 26th.  Next week we will be stuffing ditty bags.  We also have room for more golfers
to help cover  costs of the course.
Bill O'Saughnessy  announced help is needed at the soup kitchen in Ivorytown this Friday from
11 AM to 2 PM.  Several members volunteered to help out.  We need hands on help to
insure we get RI and District funds for the soup kitchens.
