Happy Bucks: Most Happy Bucks were for the students, parents, teachers, and administrators. However, Chip was happy to see the dredging that was still taking place at SPI, Devin was happy for the “three best school districts in the State” and Susan was more than happy to welcome her first grandchild, Quinn, into the world - three hours ago! Congratulations!
Program: Student of the Month – World Language

Tara Winch, Principal of Westbrook High School, explained the history of the award and its connection to the International Polio Plus Project. She then introduced the students, teachers, and the administrators.
Old Saybrook High School: Andy Chacha
Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, and Teacher, Ms. Claffey, described Andy as “the nicest kid in OSHS”. He is hardworking, thoughtful, kind, and a dedicated proponent of diversity and inclusion. Despite having an afterschool job, Andy finds the time to mentor a fourth grade student and is a volunteer for the Goodwin Buddies Program. Andy plans to attend Community College in the Fall and study Nursing.
Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Kate Walsh
Ms. Manfredi, Assistant Principal, and Mr. Vazquez-Caballero, Teacher, described Kate as an enthusiastic classroom leader with infectious energy who is always happy. She is a team captain, a member of the NHS, the Spanish Honor Society, and editor of the yearbook. Kate has recently won the “Wildcat Award” for her countless contributions to the high school community. Kate and her family are hosting an international Spanish student for the current school year. She is currently awaiting college acceptance notification and plans on majoring in Spanish this coming Fall.
Westbrook High School: Rodrigo DeMelo
Principal, Ms. Winch, and Teacher, Ms. Ferro, described Rodrigo as the student who best exemplifies “Service Above Self”. He is currently a tutor in the middle school and will expand that volunteer position into his Senior Project. He is an excellent tri-lingual student who is dedicated to establishing cross culture connections. Rodrigo will be attending UConn or Eastern Connecticut University in the Fall majoring in Education.

4-Way Test Speech Contest: See Nancy if you are interested in attending this competition for our local high school students. 3/3, Acton Library @ 6pm: 3/22/, Norwich; and the finals to be held at OSHS on 4/26 at 9 am.
Rosanne reported that the Park and Rec. Board will be determining the site for our permanent Peace Pole at their meeting tonight.
