Everyone attending is expected to pay.

Next week Bill Gagnon is our speaker. Bill has been recycling cans and bottles for years and donating the money. Please bring your cans and bottles in, Bill will take them!

A new member orientation meeting is planned tentatively for Sept. 10. Experienced members are asked to attend and share their Rotary experience and insight.

The 6 Board members met recently and discussed topics including welcoming and inclusion of new members. To help welcome them, it is suggested that we do the following: Say you name when giving happy bucks, sit with a new person at meetings. Also discussed, new name badges are going to be ordered for everyone from Russell Hampton. John Aforismo will be the point person for ordering shirts, hats, etc. It is suggested you go to the Russell Hampton website and pick out what you'd like. If our order is large enough, shipping is free. Tee shirts and Sweatshirts are ordered from Nancy.

Last weekend, the district held a Peace Conference in Mystic. Nathan Wise attended. John Walker spoke about the initiative to bring the power of Rotary to bear fostering peace in the world. Part of the program included the story of the Cuban schooner Amistad. On July 1, 1839 53 Africans abducted by Portuguese slave traders, rose up and took over the ship and forced it to sail to New London. Complicated legal issues ensued and eventually the case made it to the Supreme Court. Their attorney was former President John Quincy Adams who won an acquittal. In all, Nathan said the program was excellent and was glad he attended.

Nancy spoke on the committee assignments. She wants procedures in place so that others have a roadmap if the leader of the committee cannot continue. She pointed to the Macaroni Dinner headed by John Aforismo. Committees are free to meet via Zoom or in person. Please let Nancy and Jan know as they may want to attend. Our club has a Zoom membership so anyone can host a meeting. The time is limited to 45 minutes although you can re-log in.

The Arts & Crafts committee headed by Jan and Barbara will be meeting soon - first weekend in October. Volunteers are needed. This is a full club participation event as there are many time slots to fill in the 2 days. A list of food items (for donation) will be worked up because advance notice to Costco and other suppliers must be submitted early.

Nancy suggests printing and bringing in the meeting agendas to the meetings. You can make notes and check dates.
