Happy for the day, for the tax-free week of shopping, all happy to see Bill O’Shaughnessy back after his accident, Mike O happy to see three Rotary Clubs in Beaufort, SC alive and well, happy for Bill Gagnon and his program, Ralph S happy to be back from a NYC shopping tour.

INDUCTION NEW MEMBER     Ishita Bandyo


President Nancy Moring formally inducted Ishita Bandyo as a new member of The Rotary Club of Old Saybrook. Nancy described the worldwide presence of Rotary International. RI has1.2 million members with over 33,000 Rotary Clubs. Ishita received a Rotary pin and a packet of Rotary information, including a copy of The Four Way Test. The members warmly welcomed Ishita.

PRESIDENTS REPORT   Nancy Morin

1.)       The Club received thank you notes from the World Affairs Seminar students, Talia Baurer, Kirk Schilling, and Sophie Pennie. All three thanked The Club for providing them the opportunity to attend the Seminar. The weeklong Seminar was a life changing experience.

2.)       Vista Graduation Friday evening August 23 at The Kate

3.)       Summer Concert on The Green Wednesday August 21, 2024, 6:30 – 8:00 PM. members arrive at 5:30 PM to set up.

4.)        Old Saybrook Garden Club First Annual Mum sale, Saybrook Home Bldg. Saturday Sept 14,2024 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Talk with Gail Fahey.

PROGRAM    Recycle for School Libraries   Bill Gagnon

Bill was born and raised in Buffalo NY, attended Buffalo State Teachers College, was valedictorian of his class, with a Major in Industrial Arts. Bill lettered all four years in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track. In 1991 Bill was inducted into The Athletic Hall of Fame at Buffalo State. Moved to Connecticut, founded the Hartford Track Club, taught in Stamford, West Hartford, Southington, and Hartford. Retired in 1998, moved to Old Saybrook. Bill has collected Bottle & Cans at five cents since 1978, now ten cents. To date Bill has raised over $7,000.00. Money raised is helping the three schools in Old Saybrook, Goodwin School, to replace worn out books, Middle School, to host authors for lectures, and Old Saybrook High School, to bring in speakers. “Willie The Bottles and Can Guy”

A.)  Deadline for sponsors is August 28th.

B.)  Have $5,700.00 in sponsorships, Need more.

C.)  Signs being printed.

D.)  Thirty golfers registered, looking for seventy-two. Deadline is Aug. 31

E.)   Volunteer hours 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM Full.

F.)   Need volunteers for The Hole in One contest holes.

G.)  Thirty raffle items in, keep working. Lottery tickets good.

4.)    Membership and Publicity   Joan Winters

A.)  Saybrook Events magazine had a complimentary article focusing on students.

B.)  Events Magazines also cover Westbrook and Old Lyme.

C.)  New Rotary brochures are available.

5.) Walk to End Alzheimer’s   Martha Rothchild

A.)  Walk at Ocean Beach Park New London September 28, 2024.

B.)  Need teams to walk the 2-mile course. 9:00 – 10:00 AM sign up.

C.)        Donations welcome.
