Happy Bucks: Several for the Arts and Crafts Show, Many for the parents, teachers, students, and administrators, Charlie is happy because his daughter, Susan, was able to attend the meeting. Devin for the three best school systems in the State, several for the hurricane relief effort this past week, for the Rotary’s Student of the Month Program, and the Giants and Eagles football teams.
Student of the Month Recognition: Tara Winch gave a brief explanation of the significance of the award. She then introduced the administrators, teachers, and the students.

Lyme/Old Lyme High School: Skylar Kobelia. Assistant Principal, Ms. Manfredi, and English teacher, Ms. Baklik, described Skylar as a student who exemplifies the “core values” of LOLHS. She has earned numerous academic awards and willingly helps her classmates. Skylar is a talented writer. To illustrate that point, Ms. Baklik read several excerpts from a few of Skylar’s essays. Very talented indeed! She said that Skylar’s plans for the future include “writing to give
Old Saybrook High School: Caroline Ancona. Assistant Principal, Mr. Plotkin, and English teacher, Mr. Vautrain, described Caroline as a student who exemplifies Service Above Self. Simply put, the school is a better place because of her. Caroline is the Student Government President as well as participating in band, chorus, and soccer. She is also credited with bringing the school newspaper, The Rambler, back to life. Her future plans include studying Public Policy/Law.
Wesbrook High School: Ana Dias Heringer. Principal, Ms. Winch, and English teacher, Ms. Tomon, described Ana as a student who is well respected by her fellow students as well as the entire faculty. She has performed well in A.P. courses and is a member of the National Honor Society. Her extracurricular activities include soccer, tennis, and the lead in the school musical. In her spare time Ana volunteers. You may have seen her working in our food booth at the Arts and Crafts Show. Her future plans are to study Dentistry.
Paul Harris Recognition: Bill M. explained the origin of the Paul Harris Award and announced that Gary McCauley, Charlie Renshaw, and Pete Zucco are to be honored at the Old Lyme Country Club on November 20th. Congratulations.
Arts and Crafts follow up: Jan P. announced that 40 Rotarians participated in the two day event and that $2380 was raised – topping last year’s total. Job well done.
EREY: Nancy encouraged all members to visit the My Rotary website and to donate $25. We get this money, and more, back in the form of matching district grants.
Dictionary Distribution: Susan and Nancy will be distributing dictionaries to all third graders over the next two weeks. They will be visiting elementary schools in Westbrook, Old Saybrook, and Old Lyme.
Macaroni Dinner: John A. reported that ticket sales were ahead of last year’s count. Help is needed on 10/19 for meal prep and on 10/20 on the day of the event. See John for your work assignment.
Octoberfest will take place on the 5th Wednesday of the month 10/30. 6pm at Myrcene Ale featuring authentic German Food. RSVP to Gina J. by 10/23.
Thanksgiving Meal sponsored by Westbrook Social Services: Gary will present details at the next meeting. We have participated in the past and volunteers are needed for food distribution.
Veterans Day: Gina and a committee are looking into ways the Club can honor our veterans. More info to follow.
