We begin an new school year with our Student of the Month program. This morning we had 3 students form our high schools representing the English Dept.
Westbrook High School; Aaron Damrau Aaron's mom was with him. Aaron is looking into R I T Computer Eng
Old Saybrook High School: Olivia DelGiudice Assist Principal Tara Winch, and English Dept. Sue Murphy along with Olivias mom and dad were with us.
Lyme/ Old Lyme High School: Justin Kegley Assist. Principal Tony Carrano was with us to talk about Justin and is prowess in writing. :
State Mailyn Marily Giulian spoke this morning about the budget issues in Connecticut. 41 % of the states income comes from the income tax and 2 % of the tax payers provide 43% of the revenue. Challenges Ct has lost 70,000 jobs since March 2008, 26,000 business have in the inthe past 2 years, Ct is dead last in job growth,no new additinal jobs have been added to Ct;s economy since 1989. Quinnipiac University Poll shows 60 % of the people choose to reduce services to reduce spending. This is an economic problem not a budget issue.
Budget passed late Aug, already shows a 1/2 billion dollar deficit We have real challenges, need for affodable housing, improved job market, and many others. we need to get involved.
