President Peter announced that Rotary Foundation donations (Paul Harris Sustaining
Fellows) have been down but more members in our club have started to contribute.  He
also stated  that if the $100 per year is too much a burden, any donation is worthwhile and
       goes to good causes.
Jason announced the annual 'Turkey Dinner Drive' was getting underway, sponsered by local
banks and donations from service clubs.
Brent announced the Rotary Golf day at Black Hall would be on Thursday, October 18th.
The cost to play is $60 plus $15 if you share a cart.  We'll meet at Black Hall at 11:30 for
lunch and then tee off.  Anyone interested should contact Brent.
Gene Heinie announced the 8 week "Police Academy" will be starting soon.  It will meet once
a week, in the evening, for a 2 hour session.  Anyone interested should contact Gene or
stop by at the O.S. Police Station.
Charlie Norz announced the dictionaries will be presented this Thursday in O.S., Friday in
Lyme/Old Lyme and Monday in Westbrook.
Andy needs a few more volunteers to do Meal on Wheels, starting in January.

Exchange Student Zuka spoke to us on his home country of Georgia.  It's gone through some
turmoil in the past with raiding armies marching through (in both directions).  After the
seperation from the USSR there's been some additional turmoil, but things are 'getting
better' now.  He says it's a pretty country with lots to see.  Come visit!

Student of the Month;  English Department.
Bill McLaughlin announced our students of the month.  The Club started this program 16
    years ago and it's going strong!  The three students this month are;
Lyme/Old Lyme - Peter Wilczinsky is a star student and a star athlete.  He loves to read and
pleases his English teachers by enjoying the books other students don't like to read.  He's
applied for early admission to Yale.
Westbrook - Maggie Federisi, according to her teachers, is the perennial class president.
She seems to involved in everything.  She wants to major in International Relations and is
applying to schools around Washington DC and NYC.  She claims to be a 'big city girl'.
Old Saybrook - Helen Hurley gives 100% + all the time in everything she does.  She has a
wonderful work ethic and inspires others to do the same.  She is president of the Interact
Club and is very familiar with Rotary.  She plans on doing a double major in Spanish and
       biology.
All three students are outstanding examples of what our youth of today can be.  We are very
       proud of them all!

Program:  Bill O'Shaugnessy introduced Tenzen Naindol, a former O.S. graduate now doing
her undergraduate work at SCSU.  Tenzen gave credit to our 'good' singing and our 'moderate'
comedians (whoops Bill).  Tenzen has spearheaded the "20% Clean Energy by 2010"
program here in Old Saybrook.  The board of selectmen unanamously endorsed, and
approved the resolution she presented.  She is a passionate young lady on a mission.
A small bundle of energy (pardon the pun).  She also told us that individual homeowners as
well as municipalities can participate in this program.  Contact your local power company
    for details.
