Announcements:
Marty: Thanked those who contributed to this Interact fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The daffodils will be in the week of March 17. If they arrive in time, Mrs. Healy, the Interact adviser, will personally deliver them to our meeting. Otherwise, those who signed up will get a phone call telling them when to pick up at the high school.
Jess: The Camp Hazen phone-a-thon will be in a location in Old Saybrook. More details to follow.
Brent: The golf tournament is May 22. Thank you letters will be going out soon. We will include Rotary Club informational pamphlets as well.
Peter Manley: Bill Suits took a fall at home and suffered a fractured ankle. He is getting around and will be back at it soon. Give Bill a call.
Attendance: we rank 10th in the district with 79% attendance - not too bad however we dropped to 72% in January. For RI Foundation giving, we rank 32nd with an average of $50. We are 34th with percent of members who give.
The Beacon recognized our club for the Warm the Children Project. Though it was our first year, we outpaced another club who has been doing it for years having provided for 267 kids.
Board Meeting: The price of breakfast is going up to $10 (from $9) starting next week - The Tiezzi's went up by $0.50.
John Donnelly: Zuka needs a ride for his ski trip. Lee volunteered with Angus as backup. We still need a host April 1 for Zuka. The Interact Club will work at the Soup Kitchen April 27 and will sell roses at the upcoming HS play. Jesse Rhodes will be taking a young person to Ghana in June. Anyone who knows an interested student is invited to apply.
Treasurers Report: John Donnelly reported not too much activity in this new year.
Program: Marty introduced Dee DePhillips, the new owner of International Logos in Waterford. IL provides pins, shirts and other materials used by service clubs. IL is an authorized vendor which means they pay a royalty to RI for all purchased items that bear the RI logo. International Logos was started 12 years ago as a tee shirt transfer business but quickly grew by doing work for the Elks Club. IL also does logo work for private companies as well. Dee gave out bags of goodies that contained pins, ties (scarves for the ladies) and other things.
