Program: Bill Bernhart introduced Dan Dyer who spoke on the "Fair Tax System"
Dan is a graduate of Yale University and the Harvard Business School.  His topic
was "the Fair Tax Act of 2007" (HR25/S1025) which is in committee and has 72
co-sponsors.  He claims families are facing a large financial hole because
federal revenues and GDP are not in sync.  We also have a $345 billion gap of
uncollected taxes.  The "Fair Tax" proposal would abolish all federal taxes in place
today and would be replaced with a progressive 23% retail sales tax on all goods
and services and a nominal 'prebate' (a small refund to everyone to cover a small
portion of basic needs).  Anticipated benefits would be to pump up the GDP,
make our goods and services more affordable to us and abroad making us more
competitive in world markets.  Another major benefit would be no individual tax
filings!  Hooray, sorry John D.!  The idea is to fairly tax consumption and not the
production of wealth.  For more information go to www.Fairtax.org.
