Report on the Art & Craft Show booth. Sales were good on Sat, beautiful sunny day. Rained out on Sunday. Thanks to all who worked the booth. special thanks to Bob A for the set up and to Mary D for the use of the truck and for storing the stuff. Income down, but we had a good time. Better next year.
Susan Allison reported on the status of the recycle school uniform program. She had 50 uniforms for John D to ship to Ghana. Brent T & Gerri L conducted the Paul Harris presentation to Charles H Norz (Charlie). Charlie has been active in the Rotary Club of Old Saybrook, , Past President, Chairman of the Dictionary project, very successful. President of the Old Saybrook Rotary Foundation.Well done, congratulations to Charlie
John Donnelly gave a Power Point presentation describing the Jesse M. Rhode Foundation. The Foundation works to end preventable disease in Africa through public health infrastructure, fellowships for the training of community health providers, and access to comprehensive medical care through clinic construction and sustainable management. John talked about the work in Ghana. There is a brain drain in Ghana in the heath profession. Young professionals are leaving for the United States, and other countries. The foundation is working to reverse this out flow. Outstanding program.
John also reminded members of the book sale. Children's books are for sale $20.00 each. The funds received will buy books for children in Ghana. Help is needed the cause is wonderful.
