Program:  Keith introduced Millie Devine, past president of the New London Rotary Club,
former Trust Officer, and on the board of "Directed Giving & Estate Planning".
Millie has been in the Trust business for many years and now assists in establishing
giving foundations.  Part of her activity is to provide guidance to organizations in creating
a 'Giving Foundation'.  She feels everyone should consider a Planned Giving approach-such
as the "Leave a Legacy" program.  Everyone should at least have a will and probably a trust
according to Millie.  Without a will the courts decide how to distribute your estate (May not
be in your best interests).  Studies have shown that people who have done estate planning
live longer than those that don't (maybe they're trying to hang onto their money as long
as possible).  CT is tops in personnel income and in the lower 3rd in charitable giving
(something is wrong here).  Goveror Rell has declared June as "Leave a Legacy" month,
everyone should consider this any time of the year.  There are several ways in which you
can give AND make a difference.  Here are some of the suggestions Millie mentioned, you
should consult your own accountant or financial planner to determine which is best for you.
Outright gifts of cash, check or securities - tax benefits here.
Charitable Remainder Trusts - a way to get a monthly income from your gift and the
remainder going to the charity of your choice.
        Charitable Gift Annuity.
        Charitable E Trusts.
Make your charity a beneficary in your IRA.
Donating to the "Permanet Endowment" of your charity, principle can not be touched.
Lots to think about but don't forget the Rotary Foundation, probably the best dollar for
dollar use of your charitable gift.!
