Program:
Our guest speaker, Jesse Rohde is a medical student and founder of the Jesse Rohde Fondation. At age 19, Jesse dedicated his life to bringing healthcare to the eastern region of Ghana located on the eastern African coast. Healthcare is severely lacking because of the lack of health professionals and facilities. Young children begin work at a young age (5-7 years) , working in fields and not going to school. Thr Jess Rohde Foundation provides scolarships so that children may attend school and take up careers in medicine and healthcare. Doctors and nurses are needed and they are needed to stay and provide services to the population. Help is also provided for the infrastructure and plans are underway for a hospital and clinic from an old abandoned warehouse. This is a tedious process. Jesse talked of walking 15 miles to meet with village chiefs to let them know they are there to help and to gain their support. In the last 6 months, the JRF has installed 8 water purification systems. Sanitation is needed - actual latrines need to replace holes in the ground. There is no running water or electricity and plans are being made for a generator.
