stars and that Jack Daniels is really not a Bourbon but a "Sipping Whiskey".
We are now all so informed.
Announcements:
We received a letter from Youth & Family Services for our donation of $500.
President Elect Keith would like to keep the talk down during Happy Dollars, a good
idea Keith.
We'll be having a golf day at Black Hall, being sponsered by Charlie Norz and Andy
Anderson. The date will be Thursday, October 9th, meeting at noon at Black Hall.
We can accomodate 6 more players. Anyone interested should contact Brent Taylor. Chris Henry was inducted into the club being sponsored by Lee David. Bill McLaughlin
did the honors of bringing Chris into the club.
Mike Velgouse indicated a few volunteers are needed this coming Saturday morning in
Deep River to help in the setup of the District Assembly.
Program: Kevin Brewer of the Deep River Club is Membership Coordinator for our District
and gave a talk on Memnership Development. Kevin had an interactive presentation
although we were a little slow on the interacting. Some of his key points were;
Publicity - submit pictures and articles to the local papers on our activities. Let the
community know what we're doing and the causes we support. A good example of this
is the Bill & Mellinda Gates $100M matching grant challange to finally eradicate polio.
Talk of inviting the Chamber of Commerce came up again and it was agreed that
'mining' the Chamber for potential members was a good idea.
Holding a Grant Workshop for small businesses was discussed but would require
special expertice in this area to pull off.
Kevin also talked about bringing in new members and getting them involved early on.
Expectations should be discussed with potential members but be enthusiastic in describing
our involvements. Mentoring is a good way to get the new member engaged in an
enthusiastic manner. Also being assigned to existing committees gets him/her into the
swing of things and will give them a feeling of being involved and making a contribution.
The Old Saybrook Club has a goal of 5 new members, net, for this Rotary year. Lets all try
to identify and invite potential candidates to our meetings and events.
Remember, sometimes the best source of new members might live right next door.
